I have many challenges when it comes to completing a project. I have this need to gather EVERYTHING together into one place, so I know exactly what I have to deal with. If I feel that something is missing, then I don't feel like I am able to accurately complete the project! And sometimes I just leave it unfinished. I really need to get over this stumbling block ;o)
Photo Freedom was the perfect book for me, because the first step was to gather EVERY photo in your house and then organize them. CHECK.
As I started on the pictures-now in chronological order-I found some from when my boys were little that I need one for each boys' page and only have one or that could be made into much better photos with the amazing photo software out there now. So, I got out the negatives to see what is on them:
It was fun to finally open my Merry Glo-Round light box that I won about 5 years ago and have never used!
I have APS film that is still in canisters:
I have this box FULL of 35mm negatives that I have organized by year:
I have all of these CDs (which is the ultimate goal), but there are also some of those old disc films, a few 110 negatives and the big white envelope is full of black and white 35mm from a class I took in the spring of 1998. I also have about 10- 3.5" diskettes that our computers are too new to be able to open any photos. I am about to cut my losses and just throw those out if I can't find anyone able to open them soon! If you have an old computer running Windows 98 or older that can open these diskettes for me and then save them to a CD, I will pay for all of the supplies and a nice dinner out for you!
I have been researching places online to help bring me into the digital age. It appears that the APS films will cost me $.39/frame ($90 total) and the disc film will cost me $.99/frame ($253 total). That is not in the budget right now, but I will eventually do it since those cover the time period from the birth of my first to the birth of my second.
In the meantime, the plan is to continue with the boys' scrapbooks with the photos I have. If I have one print, I am just scanning it and printing another. If I can make the print better by zooming in, I am scanning it, editing it, and printing another.
I have 1,000s of 35mm negatives, though, so it is worth it for me to purchase a negative to digital scanner and spend my time scanning my own negatives. I almost bought one a few weeks back, but then decided to do some more research.
I HAVE FOUND THE ONE I WANT!!
I am getting the Canon CanoScan 9000F.
Geno asked if I got it yet, but I have always been slow on making bigger purchases for myself. I have over half of the money saved already from selling things and keeping my change, so I will probably do it soon.

I AM NOT GOING TO OBSESS ABOUT WHAT PICTURES I MIGHT FIND ON THOSE NEGATIVES!
I better say that again...
I AM NOT GOING TO OBSESS ABOUT WHAT PICTURES I MIGHT FIND ON THOSE NEGATIVES!
(for now!)
Maybe I will allow myself to obsess when I start my personal history ;o)
