Well, it was a sad moment. I mean, isn't this the day that every parent looks forward to ALL SUMMER-or at least about 4 weeks into summer vacation-and today marked my last one. I told Geno last night that it was Derrick's last first day of school so I would actually get up and make him breakfast today.
When Derrick came upstairs after brushing his teeth and announced that this was his "last first day to put this thing on" (his backpack) I thought that was funny. I hadn't said that in front of him the night before. Of course, great minds think alike! I did point out that he will need his backpack for college, too, since he will have a lot of books, but he said it didn't count. That is higher education and isn't legally required.
The difference this year is that Derrick now owns his very own set of wheels. He paid for them in full last week from the money he earned this summer working for Aquacrete. This year he will be driving to school in style-on his 2008 scooter. Look out, Girls! I mean, who wouldn't want to ride on the back of that awesome bike? And if the bike alone doesn't attract them, maybe the guy with the financial sense to purchase transportation that costs $3.73 to fill up and will last for almost a week will do it ;o)
Have a great day at school, Derrick! I know that this is going to be a tough one. Derrick is taking all honors and AP courses this year and he HAS to get all A's to reach his goal of graduating with honors. I know that he can do it!By the way, did anyone else notice that graduation is on a Sunday this year?
