We be jammin'!

Today we went to McGarrah Farms in Pea Ridge and picked strawberries. My good friend, Nancy Davis, had already gone three times and forgot that I had asked her to show me where it is and teach me how to make jam. Today was the last day to pick. So...being the wonderful person she is who is ALWAYS helping others, she dragged her almost 7-months pregnant body out of bed along with her 3 preschool-aged children and picked up Derrick and me after dropping off her 2 school-aged children at the bus. Oh yes, you read that right-she is pregnant with number 6 and she looks great.
Isn't that a great picture? I was having so much fun picking that I gave my camera to 5 year-old Wyatt and sent him off. What did we do before digital? We paid to get a lot of bad pictures developed! I knew I could delete anything that didn't turn out or that I didn't want (I did hear 4 year-old Carson say, "Hey, Wyatt! Take a picture of my armpit!") so I didn't worry about what might happen. All but the last picture here is by Wyatt. He did an amazing job! He will turn 6 on June 28th and I am thinking that one of those digital cameras that are made for kids would be the perfect gift for him!
Even Derrick got in on the action this time. He said that he really enjoyed picking the strawberries and he is already planning to go with us on Saturday to pick blueberries.
These are our three little helpers: Carson is in the back in the striped shirt. Wyatt, our photographer, is in the green shirt. Gracie, who will be 2 on June 13th, is in the front. (I guess that I lied about all of the photos except the last one being taken by Wyatt. I took this first one and then gave the camera to him and then I took the last one, too.)
Doesn't Wyatt have quite the eye for the good photos? Look at the color here!
After spending only about an hour picking two flats, Nancy came home with me and showed me how to make freezer jam. I also froze 7 quarts of whole berries to use in milkshakes, smoothies, and desserts. This was the first batch of jam:
I put some into the jelly jars so that I can make some fresh loaves of bread at Christmas-time and give them out with a jar of jelly. The ones for our family are just in plastic containers. There were 32 total! This was a very fun day, and I am very excited about how it all turned out. I can't wait to do blueberries this weekend!
